The lecture-recital aims to introduce piano teachers to lesser-known, high-quality works by living American composers, particularly those from African American, Asian American, and Latin American backgrounds. The selected pieces, ranging from intermediate to advanced levels, were composed within the last 50 years and reflect a wide variety of styles and moods, from folk and jazz-inspired to romantic, minimalistic, and programmatic. All works are available for purchase in print or digital form, and the presentation will include composer and piece information via PowerPoint.
